a brief review

Hi, my name is Alisha. I grew up in central Illinois in a small little town of 5000 people surrounded by cornfields. When I was 18 and graduated highschool, I took the leap and moved to Chicago to start my college life. I ended up graduating there in 3 years with a Bachelors of Fine Arts: Interior Design and a certificate in Kitchen and Bath. In 2010, I moved back to my hometown area and finally landed me a job as a kitchen and bath designer for Kirchner Building Centers in Mattoon, IL.

In March of 2011, I started attending Salisbury Church in the town I was living in and a few months later I started a group called Celebrate Recovery. At this group I discovered a family in Christ that I would never thought I would have in my life. It is an amazing group of men and woman that have hurts, habits and hangups just like everyone else in this world, but are going through a Christ based group to find the root causes and to overcome them with Christ. In October I found myself at the altar crying out to the Lord to save me and that I was ready to give my life over to him. A month later I was baptized and found myself starting to live a new lifestyle. (Let me remind you I am human and I am not perfect still)

In May of 2012 I took my first missions trip ever and found myself in the country of Haiti. I saw some breathe taking sights and met some amazing people during this journey. While I was there and after I returned I kept getting this feeling in my gut that God wants me to move to Haiti. After lots of conformation, I can say that the spirit is leading me to move to Haiti. I will be living there for a minimum of 2 years and working as a 2nd grade teacher. While I am there I will also be a designer, I am currently working on 2 condos there.

I leave for Haiti in the middle of August 2012 with a group called Sonlight Ministries. We will be living in Port-de-Paix, Haiti where they have been established there since 1979 and have an academy there. You can check out more information about them at sonlightministries.org.
