Support

As is the case whenever someone does this type of work, I have to raise funds in order to accomplish these goals and continue to live in Haiti. Below are some of the ways which you can help.

IMPORTANT: Any money or item donated should be clearly marked “Alisha Riley” on a separate note with the check otherwise there is no way for our office workers to know who the donation is for. Also, you should get a receipt for any money donated, let me know if you do not.

Donation of Items:
The mission is in constant need of items such as batteries, medicines, toiletries, non-perishable food products, and other items.  Throughout the year, there are many supplies we need to operate Sonlight Academy, Sonlight Church, and our other ministries in Port-de-Paix. We depend on donations from our friends and supporters to continue to serve the people of Haiti.

Below is a list of materials we need. Would you consider choosing from the list and making a donation? Maybe you are looking for a way to get your church or Christian group involved in supporting mission work - please consider organizing a "school supply" donation drive, collecting new and used books, or raising funds to buy a few larger items, like desks or computers. We appreciate any way you can assist us in our ministry.

Please securely pack your donations and send the package(s) to:

One Time Gifts:
One time gifts are also a big part of our support.  As is the case with any monetary donation to Sonlight, one time gifts are tax deductible as a charitable donation and are a big part of what we do. Some people choose to donate money for various projects or construction, or even for the salary of a missionary. If you would like to support myself in this manner please send a check to the Sonlight address below and make it out to Sonlight Ministries. On a separate piece of paper or on the memo line of a check write “Alisha Riley” and if the donation is for a specific project then you can also note that on the separate piece of paper.

Monthly Support:
This is the most important financial assistance for a missionary.  I need individuals, families, small groups, ministries, entire Churches, and even businesses to dedicate funds each month. This money will be in essence my salary. This will cover daily food expenses, travel abroad and stateside, supplies, housing, electricity and clean water and other basic needs. Essentially this is the money that I will live off of. As you can imagine, depending on other people for my living is both unsettling and yet at the same time liberating.  I have already seen the support of our friends and family in many ways and we know that it will continue. We want to stress that there is no such thing as an insignificant amount when it comes to monthly support. We cherish the five dollars a month from the young couple just as much as we will the thousand dollars from a large church.  I want to make my ministry part of the lives of the people around me and this is an easy way to join me in my work in Haiti. If you are interested in supporting me in this way make out a check to Sonlight Ministries and on a separate note write “Alisha Riley- Monthly Support.”  Soon I will also have a link on this blog so you can support through here as well.

Coming to Haiti:
One of the biggest problems that I will face will be homesickness. Luckily Sonlight Ministries offers short-term mission trips during the school season while we are living in Haiti. This means that many of you have the opportunity to experience a mission trip and see exactly what I do everyday. Nothing is more encouraging to me when I hear of friends and family who want to join me in the work that I will be doing and so they decide to come down to Haiti. A trip through Sonlight Ministries is ideal for big groups, such as youth ministries, or even individuals.  There are many ways visitors can participate in Sonlight's work. They include assisting Sonlight Academy teachers in their classrooms and tutoring individual students. These are perfect ways to get involved, get to know students, and get a feel for the life of a Sonlight missionary. Mission teams can also teach Sunday school and lead devotions or worship.   As Sonlight grows, there is an ever-increasing need for maintenance workers. Roger Alexander organizes building, construction, and maintenance projects that need to be completed, and our staff depends largely on the work of visitors to accomplish these projects.
Other project opportunities include health clinics and special events for staff or students.
