Inspiration from HGTV

Alright so my mind is on the thoughts of what does HGTV has on their website right now that is just sticking out to me that I truly love and say "I WANT THAT IN MY HOUSE!"

Well these are few shots that I have taken off of HGTV and I will let you know what I truly just love about them.  I plan to start this every Friday posting a picture of my likes from various pictures of interior design that I have found, but for now we will start here!

Dining Room

Okay I don't know about all of you, but how many of you have at your house those wooden uncomfortable dining chairs?!?!  I know I do and I saw this picture of these dining chairs and said I just have to have those.....  I am not saying this color, but def. chairs that are this style or that at least are more fabric then they are wood!  These chairs here they don't have arm rests, but they have just enough area that comes down on your side to make you feel all snuggled into the chair and comfy!

Living Room

When it comes to my living room all I can picture is this very cozy area that has a huge sofa that I dream of cuddling up on and watching a great movie with my husband (when I find prince charming :P.)  I started picturing this little country room that just made you "feel like home", but then I cam across this picture and even though it doesn't have a carpeted floor or this bright colors everywhere it is just so amazing to me.  I love the over sized couch that just looks very comfortable, a vibrant colored rug with just enough color in the flowers on the coffee table.  The kitchen also looks amazing in the background with the candle chandelier above the dining table.  I personally would add a Little more splashes of color throughout this space (maybe an accent wall or a stencil print with some color on the wall of the stairs.)

beautiful contemporary urban loft
Something like this but maybe with a little more color!
Off to the Bedroom.....
Well of course the bedroom has to be "home away from home".  The moment you walk in there its like a retreat to get away to.  So we def. need cozy, relaxing, a place that you just completely forget where you are.  So lets see what we can find!
The lighting... How did you do that?, Some people have asked "How did you get the lighting under the bed?" The lighting is both inexpensive and easy to install. I secured rope lighting inside the bed frame using plastic clips that have an adhesive backing. ...costs about $10 and can be found at most hardware stores. The rope lighting is plugged into an outlet that is connected to a dimmer light switch and can adjusted by a remote control devise. Thanks for all your wonderful comments and encouraging 5-star ratings!, I certainly can't say I'm much of a decorator or color expert. This is my first time at doing something like this. So I was so amazed to find that I had more than 50000 hits and was rated among the top three photos the other day! WoW!Thank you for all your support your wonderful comments and your 5-star ratings!, Bedrooms Design
This picture here is like a room that is complete zen!  I love the green accent wall, but of course most of all the mood lighting above the bed and the lighting underneath the bed!
Designed on a dime..sort of!, An afternoon of 'looking' at a furniture store made for a whirlwind of remodeling in my home. I feel like I sleep at my favorite hotel every night! Wall color is called Twig Basket by Behr Paints (found at Home Depot). Depending on the natural light that shines through it looks greenish-brown. Very Earthy. The furniture is wood but painted black instead of stained (and shows every bit of dust if you do not dust it EVERYDAY!! haha), Bedrooms Design
This room here has the nice side lighting and the tall posts.  I think I have realized its all about the lighting when it comes to the bedroom!!!
Into the Bathroom
A lot of people think of white (sterile) when it comes to the bathroom but I want a little pop of color, even if it is a suttle color!  I really like walk in showers instead of the shower/bath combo, but of course that will be needed in the children's bathroom for tub time.  So we are focusing on the master bathroom on this one.  I have seen several different bathrooms and I absolutely love the walk in showers that a large scale.  I also love the floating style or furniture style vanities and the sinks that stand above the counter top!
LESS IS MORE APPROACH, Unlike the old-world basement bath in our previous house (see "Roman" bath if interested) the basement in our new house got a simple powder room. No "party" shower no sauna ... just a clean almost minimalist look. When is less more? As always thanks for visiting! CEILING PAINT is different from the wall paint. Ceiling paint is a light silver metallic paint by Ralph Lauren (Home Depot), while walls are painted with Ben Moore Smokestack Gray. Ceiling took 5 coats but was well worth it. , Some of you asked for the paint color - so I ran downstairs and dug up a leftover can of paint Benjamin Moore #2131-40 Smokestack Gray. Phew. So thrilled with response to this color. If thinking about using it suggestions: it's very DARK almost charcoal w/ blue'n'teal undertones. Use bright white baseboard and crown moulding (or ceiling) and EXTRA lighting to highlight the wall color. Good luck! , Bathrooms Design
I'm posting this because I love the color of the walls with that little pop behind the vanity area!
This picture of this shower I had to post just because it is absolutely amazing and I would love to take a shower in there!  Feel like I'm outside in the nature under an amazing waterfall!
Final room to take a look into for now is the kitchen!
When I think of my kitchen I think green, modern, very contrasting colors and cabinetry with multi functions.  Since I am a kitchen and bath designer I am all about function when it comes to the kitchen.  Fillers that have pullouts in them to use for canned good and def. cabinetry that has adjustable shelves is a must (you never know what size that pan you buy is and if it will fit into your cabinets.)  I am extremely into the chocolate cabinetry with the glass/metal look and you cant beat a vibrant white counter top
This kitchen here it has the dark cabinetry with the glass ones thrown in there.  The island is a white tone that just looks so clean!  There is also an amazing back splash and the seating area is made out of a wood that looks so vintage and green.  I really enjoy this kitchen, but I think I would incorporate a different flooring into it and maybe some other lighting..
There is a lot more that I have found on HGTV, but these are just a few ideas from each room that stuck out to me.  I plan to start posting some DIY stuff soon though!

New Years Goal List! :)

After lots of dreaming about this year…and praying about what 2012 holds, here are some of my personal goals.

Hanging out with my girl friends a lot more!!! (social)When you get working and starting several different groups you start to not realize just how much time you have stopped spending with friends.  I think it is finally time to make those occasional lunch "appts." or just hanging out and doing craft time.

Intentionally move 3-4 times a week (physical)I say this because I realize that I sit at a desk working on designs on the computer so I am not one that is moving around a lot.  So I need to start actually moving.... yoga... Pilate's... swimming... taking a walk... going to the gym!  Its time to start moving!

Start a garden (C.O.O.)I am excited about this one, but at the same time I keep thinking I don't have a house of my own so its a little harder then it seems like to start gardening.  Then I started doing some looking around on DIY projects and I can do a small outdoor garden by using either some pallets or going and buy like a feeding troph and make it in there.  And of course if the outside garden just doesn't seem to work out then I can do an indoor garden or at least do a little bit of planting! :)

Do a devotional study throughout the year (spiritual)I know a lot of people seem that they don't want to make it a goal to read the bible in a year, but that really is a big goal of mine.  I just need to focus and give God his time and it will all fall into place.  To make a side note on this goal I am also determined that everyday I at least read something spiritual... this meaning a bible verse or a inspirational book or something that touches the hard that relates to God's words.

Do a lot of traveling this year!!! (adventure)I say this because growing up I have not really been able to adventure a lot.  I have always had a desire to do so, but just haven't seemed to be able to get out there.  I love visiting new locations in the area (which I need to do more often too), but I am talking about jumping on a bus, flying in a plane, riding on a train or driving a distance in the car and going out to visit new places.  Outdoor parks, art museums, festivals, body of water, the list can go on!  Of course its also going to be a goal of mine to document the places that I go and visit (I guess its time to start scrap booking as well :p.....)

Work on more DIY crafts (creative)I continually talk about I want to make this chandelier, I want to create these little candle holders, I want to sew these peoples.  Well its time to start just saying I want to and start to actually take action on them.  Start expecting some blogs on DIY projects starting very soon!

I really love photography and determined to take more photos and post them on blogs(secret love)I really love photography. I used to even work on the yearbook for that reason in high school and then even worked for a photography company.  I guess when we start growing up you sometimes go away from the small things you love and start just focusing on your job or the big things.  It's time to start taking some more pictures (thank you mom/dad for the new camera for Christmas it will really help!)

I was thinking about posting financial, but all I can saw about finances right now is to just get the debt under control (student loans)!!!!

And finally, my personal Biggie of the year -
Give my will over to God
I know a lot of you who read that won't understand what I am talking about, but my CR family will def. know what I mean.  I have given my life over to God, but everyday is a struggle when it comes to giving my will over to him.

I know many people try and have their goals down by the time the new year starts, but I find that I prayerfully consider mine well into January. I want to be able to scratch certain ones off that really don’t fit, or add new ones on that I think are important.

Enjoying the journey ~

Holidays

I realized I haven't posted a blog in a while and figured that I would update people on a few things that I have been doing.  These last few weeks have been crazy with the holidays.  A lot of traveling and visiting friends that haven't seen in a long time.

Christmas Eve I spent a lot of the day with my family at my parents house and let me tell you what it was actually a very pleasant experience!  There was a lot of "family love" that I felt there and not much drama thankfully.  I then took a drive up to Chicago, where I lived during college and spent some time with friends up there.  Christmas day was a very pleasant experience.  I was at my friends families house and I absolutely enjoyed it!  Everyone enjoyed the gifts that I gave them which put a giant smile on my face.  It wasn't the fact that I bought people "things" because it wasn't about money (which I am a DIY person so a lot of items I created myself), but it was because the thankfulness from them.  Some people I have came to realize in past holidays (def. talking about myself on this one as a child) but we weren't thankful for the things we received like we should of been.  Parents take their time and money to buy you "things" that they feel like you would like to have and wrap it up and everything and sometimes as children we just open the gift and act like "well that isn't what I was wanting."  Where did our thankfulness go to sometimes?!?  Well back to happy things :) I had a glorious time there for Christmas and I pray that next Christmas is even better.  I am starting to realize the actual meaning of Christ-mas now that I have given my life over to God.  Its not about the "things" that we receive that will one day eventually be destroyed or forgotten about, but its about the time we spend together, the giving and glorifying God above all else!

The New Years..... Well I brought that in by being in bed by 10:30pm having the stomach flu.  Let me tell you it wasn't very fun!  I was also in Chicago for the New Years and all I can say is wow on how people "bring" in the new year.  I was laying in the bed and all I could hear at midnight was several gun shots.  I guess that's the thing now-a-days to replace fireworks! It was kinda scary just laying there hearing that, but knowing honestly that I was inside instead of out there on the streets with everyone else who was celebrating made a comforting reassurance in my heart and mind.  It's crazy when you realize the older you get the more you would rather just stay in with a loved one and bring in the New year with a dinner, movie and midnight kiss instead of being out there at house parties or doing very irresponsible things.

Well the holidays are over now and I was listening to WBGL radio and they was talking about how we need a holiday between Christmas and Summer.  I was thinking about that when they said that I was like well we do have Valentines Day, but there is people out there that don't have that relationship in their lives and it depresses them instead.  They were discussing that we need this other holiday for people have basically have something to look forward to and because it seems when it comes to Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years a lot of people make those a big event and in the middle of the spring time there isn't anything going on so we need another big holiday to pep everybody back up.  Thinking about it thought I don't need that extra holiday in there just because I love the spring so much!!! The new life growing outside, the birds starting to chirp, the sun shining its just a glorious thing!  I guess some people just need a different look on things sometimes and what exactly God has made and put on this earth.

Well I have to run for now, but I will post another blog about a few things that have been touching my heart lately when it comes to this world, God and the things that I love.  Also expect a new years resolution list on my next blog too! :)  I hope you all have a glorious day!!  Even though it is snowy outside, the sun just started shining so take a moment to look outside and instead of complain about the weather look how beautiful God has made it and see the glory of the sun shining on the white snow!

Verse for thought..... "Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.  Isaiah 1:18
